The IFX Forum's New ATM/POS Working Group Creates XML Specifications to Support Financial Devices

March 14, 2002, Alexandria, Va

March 14, 2002, Alexandria, Va. - The Interactive Financial eXchange (IFX) Forum formed a new working group to create Extensible Markup Language (XML) based messages to support Automated Teller Machines (ATM), Point of Sale (POS) devices and other financial transactions. Spearheaded by IFX Forum members NCR, ACI Worldwide and Bank of America, this initiative will greatly benefit financial institutions by expanding IFX messaging capabilities to an even wider range of delivery channels, such as ATM, POS and other devices.

Specifically, the ATM/POS Working Group will enhance security features and the following services, which are a collection of related messages, included in the IFX specification:

- Base service, including messages related to customer and service profile information

- Banking service, containing messages related to account inquiries, transfers, deposits, withdrawals, and other core banking services

- Valuable media service, including messages related to keeping track of such items as cash and postage stamps located at client devices (e.g. ATMs)

Slated for release at the end of 2002, these new messages will be included in IFX Version 1.4.

The kick-off meeting will take place March 18-19 at ACI Worldwide in Omaha, Neb. Visit http://www.ifxforum.org/ifxforum.org/events/atmpos.cfm for additional information on the upcoming meeting and this new working group or contact Jay Devine at jdevine@disa.org or 703-518-4164.

Version 1.3 of the IFX specification is scheduled for release in late spring 2002. The latest IFX specification - version 1.2 - is available free of charge at www.IFXForum.org, and features a wide range of functions that allow financial institutions and associated service providers to access account information, download credit card statements, transfer funds, process consumer and business payments, enable bill presentment, and improve customer service.
