IFX Forum Launching ISO 20022
Extended Remittances Initiative
The IFX Forum invites all interested parties to participate in a re-invigorated effort to complete the ISO 20022 extended remittance specification.  The importance of this effort was reinforced by a Remittances Workshop hosted by the Federal Reserve at the end of June.  The initiative will build on the foundation laid by earlier work by the Forum and partner organizations in this area, and its goal is to create an ISO extended remittance specification that can work within the ACH and other payment channels, as the world moves toward XML for many types of transactions and information exchanges.

IFX Forum President Richard Urban said, "With our experience spearheading the ISTH harmonization effort that contributed a payment kernel to the ISO 20022 standard, as well as possessing the infrastructure that facilitated that work, the IFX Forum stands ready and willing to lead a new collaboration, and we invite all interested parties to join us."  (Read the press release about this initiative.)

We're looking for additional stakeholders to join in this project, which will be carried out within the Liaison & Interoperability Working Group.  We have created a special type of Advisory Membership in the IFX Forum for this activity, with dues that are only 25% of the standard fees.

The kickoff meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 4 (exact time TBD) during the IFX Forum's upcoming Face-to-Face meeting in Redmond, Washington, USA (see article below), and there will be no meeting fees for remittance session participants.  Remote access will be available, if you cannot attend in person.  If you're interested in participating in this extended remittance work or want to learn more,
send a message to Judith Vanderkay, info@ifxforum.org.
IFX Forum Fall Face-to-Face Meeting, October 3-5, Redmond, Washington

You are cordially invited to join us at the IFX Forum's Fall IFXglobe2011 Face-to-Face Meeting, which is being held October 3-5 in Redmond, Washington, USA, hosted by Microsoft Corporation.  You can find all the details -- including hotel and agenda, in addition to the registration form -- connected from the link on our home page, www.ifxforum.org.

Highlights of this meeting include hands-on sessions of the Forum's working groups, including the kickoff of the ISO 20022 extended remittances project (see related article above), and plenty of opportunities to network with Forum members.  There may also be a special Microsoft opportunity on the program.

If your company is considering membership, attending a face-to-face meeting is an excellent way to "test-drive" the Forum: you'll be able to meet the organization's leaders and other members, engage in discussions about the content and use of IFX, and find out firsthand the value of participation.  The $695 meeting fee is put toward the first year's dues if your company joins within 60 days.

Note that the special $139 rate at our Courtyard by Marriott hotel expires on September 19, so reserve soon!

LIWG-BIAN Proof-of-Concept White Paper

The IFX Forum's Liaison and Interoperability Working Group (LIWG), which is chartered to be a center of expertise within the IFX Forum for interoperability and communications with external standards bodies, has been collaborating with representatives of BIAN (the Banking Industry Architecture Network) on a Proof of Concept White Paper.  The paper will deal with implementing BIAN Service Definitions using the IFX Standard and ISO 20022 Payment Initiation Messages.

The new White Paper will be first offered at the Sibos event in Toronto later this month, in conjunction with IFX President Richard Urban's speaking engagement (see article below).  It will also be available for free download from the IFX Forum website.  For more information, send a message to Judith Vanderkay, info@ifxforum.org.
